I almost threw in the towel

Things have been going a hundred miles an hour lately with the start up of my last semester of Nursing School, Eric's change in positions @ work, and new lifestyle (I know I'm super hot, but I'm talking about becoming vegetarian...sorry ladies!)

My stress level has hit a new high, but I thought I was handling things pretty well. Then, when I got my visit from Aunt Flo, she was insanely out of control...like nothing I have ever experienced before (flow wise)! So, I'm thinking I might be a tad anemic so I'm scheduling an appt with the doc for some blood draws, b/c you can't be too careful. School hasn't been too difficult, but we'll see what tune I'm singing after my first exam. I have been in a funk the past few days and it all seem to hit the fan yesterday.

Being the woman that I am, I let some completely stupid set me off, and poor Eric was the only one around to take the heat. We talked...I cried...and he gave me the motivation I needed, like always. I wanted to give up b/c it was too hard and put it off til after school, but he reminded me that this was do-able, and he wants to help me anyway he can. (sorry ladies, he is soooo taken!)

I was completely ready to give up on the vege thing b/c of stress & some quite hurtful remarks I have received from various people. But, being the that rock he is, he gave me strength and told me to "drive on!" (it's an Army thing). We went to the commissary Saturday and both truly stuck with our diet plans. We normally sneak some kind of crap into the cart, but we held strong and got what we needed. We found some awesome buys and new things to try (tofu is WAY cheaper at the commissary, and they have the kind that doesn't have to be refrigerated!!)

I have also found the Subway of Mexican food, Moe's! They have a million different vegetarian options, and it's in the area near where I go to school and have many of my clinical rotations. The Vege-Delite from Subway was starting to get old ;o)

I'm glad you stuck with it! But, I know what you mean about the comments...people are so insensitive. They say rude things about my daughter's veggie ways ALL the time. I have found that the ethnic restaurants seem to be the most veggie friendly so you're onto something with Moe's!

Sounds like your guy is there for you 100% Very cool! Keep up with the veggie thing if that's what you really want. Don't let other peoples comments dissuade you. I love meat too much to give it up but more power to you if that's what you want!

I'm just glad I have someone around that I trust and can easily be the voice of reason when I am in one of my crazy moods...

We all need that someone to help us in our mental breakdown states. Good for you sticking to the diet. And I LOVE mexican food, so hurray for finding a good veggie option.

I am so glad you are sticking to your diet! I had the most intense craving for Diet Coke last night, but I didn't succomb. I don't think I could say the same for meat.

I so admire you for sticking to this vege diet. When you told me about the acne thing, I have been researching.
Do get your hemo checked. My body doesn't absorb iron and other stuff and I have to have infusions. When your b/c is low you will feel tired, weepy, etc.
You can do the diet, school, everything! Remember, you ROCK!

One of my friends has been a vegetarian for three years and she gets crap about it all the time. I just don't get it. It's not like you're making anyone else make the choice so why do they care enough to remark badly about it.? *sigh*

Keep it up!

Seriously, why would anyone really care that you are a vegetarian??? Some people!! Good grief.

Wait, people were saying stuff about you being vegetarian?

I'm getting caught up on everybody's blog and reading your most recent posts... I can't believe anybody would have something to say about being a vegan. That just seems so common anymore. And I absolutely can't believe someone said the "n" word. Ugh!!!

I have tagged you... so just visit my blog. :0)

Isn't it great to have a good husband? I hope you get things figured out, flow-wise :)

When Ker and I lived in Ohio we went to Moe's all the time. I love the chips and the salsa bar.

Chipotle was our other favorite, but depending on how far you are taking the vegetarian thing, you would be pretty limited there because even the pinto beans have some bacon in them.

Hey it is always something small or what not, that sets me off, it seems to me when we really need that outlet of crying it does not matter WHAT it is that sets us off, we just NEED that fit of crying to be able to go on!

People were rude to you because you want to be a Vege? Or tree-hugger as we used to call Sandy when she was one for a few years? Mike started the teasing name as he heard it out in Utah when he was there for school. Sandy loathed it, LOL!

P.S. Sandy got really anemic too and had to take iron, etc. That is why she HAS to have chicken, etc now. She was not getting the nutrients she needed.

That's great that you stuck with your diet when life is so tough! That's a good sign. You can do it!! You have the advantage of having a nursing background and some familiarity with nutrition requirements.
