It's been decided...

I brought up my desire to be a vegetarian to Eric tonight, and he is all for it...as long as I get the needed protein in other ways.

I am going to try being a lacto-ovo vegetarian. We'll see how this goes. I think I am going to keep a food diary just to make sure I am getting everything I need.

Eric will continue to eat meat, and I wouldn't expect him to stop!!! I just feel really strongly about this, and want to give it a shot. Wish me luck!

Good Luck Mary! If you are worried about protein, online you can get Bene Protein, which I had to take after my surgery, it is tasteless, I had it in shakes, and contains a lot of protein!

Good for you! Does that mean you still eat cheese and dairy? We don't eat much meat at our house but mostly b/c I am lazy and meat takes longer to prepare.

The protein will be important. I remember when my daughter first switched she got really tired until she realized she had to up that protein. Sounds like you've got it under control.

And I do have an awesome recipe for you to try. I'll email it to you! Seriously, it's delicious!

Jessica, yes...I plan on sticking with dairy products & eggs. It might be the only way I will be able to get enough protein and stay healthy!

Good luck!! I am also a meatatarian. Well--except for red meat. I'm not a huge fan. I can do lean, extra lean, lean, lean ground beef but that's about it.

Try Boca Burgers. My father-in-law swears by them. My brother also decided to try them and he said that they are delish!!

Tofu is actually a great source of protein- I've actually made tofu meatballs (spiced the same way and pan-fried in a little olive oil) and they tasted pretty good!

Umumum, I was bored and looked up a website or two for you. The first is the nutrition facts for tofu, the second is a Harvard study on protein that includes soy products. Hope I helped!

Go buy the book "Nourishing Traditions" and read that. I learned a LOT about nutriion from that book. (I'm not ready to completely jump on that band wagon yet, but making small adjustments that will make big returns healthwise.)It goes against what the mainstream medical field says regarding nutrition, just as a heads up. I just read that there are certain vitamins that your body needs that ONLY meat can provide. I'm all for supporting you, just make sure you are getting everything that you need and that your body can assimilate it properly! Good luck!

I am certain you have already read up on the subject matter and have the information on combining proteins to obtain all essential amino acids, so I will not bore you with any of my wisdom. There are lots of good vegetarian resources out there, not only for combining proteins but also great recipes. Most recipe websites include vegetarian recipes. Since you include dairy products and eggs there should be no problems creating tasty nourishing meals.
