When good ideas go horribly wrong

So, I had my lil sis dye the front of my hair blonde in August, then 2 weeks later I chopped it short. It has since grown out quite a bit!! I have an appt with my hairdresser on Friday, but she only has time for a cut....and I desperately need the color.

Eric and I decided that it shouldn't be that hard to do my roots with some dye from a box...so we found a super light blonde and went for it. And.....
Yeah, I'm not too thrilled with the orangish tone of the roots...but we don't have a Sally's here!! So, I will be heading to Super Cuts tomorrow to get it dyed properly. And...I'm thinking....BLACK!

DO NOT DYE AT HOME!!!

I once looked like an aging Garfield after such an attempt, with my previously bleached highlights turning gray, and the rest orangy. Adam told me it looked fine, but after I decided to be a brunette again, he told me how horrible it looked.

I am going to cry in a corner now.

I'm just a random passer-by. You proclaim yourself a comment whore in your sidebar, so I thought I'd drop you a fix.

Yup, the "I did it myself" orange tint of your roots does not suite you. However, I do think the cut is a flattering length on you.

I dye at home, although I have been doing it for 10 years AND had scary stories to tell sometime! The one time I paid for it to be done at a salon, I picked the color (red!) and the girl was like "are you sure?" and I was like uh YEAH, and then it was not the red I picked out! Grrr!!

Are you serious about the black?

I like your natural (??) brunette color with honeyed highlights. I color my own hair but don't recommend it for blonde shade because orange-ish is always a possibility!

I tried to highlight my hair once with one of those highlight kits...I ended up looking like a cheetah head. It was bad. It was like camouflage...in my hair.

Hair dying at home--not a good idea!! I had my hubby dye mine once and I looked like Bozo the Clown.
