Is IMAX or 3-D really worth it?

Eric seems to be obsessed with IMAX & 3-D movies, so when he heard about 'Avatar,' thats being released today and available in both, he was over joyed! That is until he discovered the nearest IMAX theater was in Tallahassee (over 2 hrs away), but was still planning to make the drive because he is convinced it's worth it!

Is this the male obsessed phallic-extension syndrome like cars/trucks, guns, electronics, or is the 'experience' really worth it?

I say no. I have seen a few movies in IMAX, 3-D, and a combination of the two, and I just don't see why it's so awesome. Now, I did enjoy seeing an IMAX presentation about sea life while we were at Disney (I think), but not enough that I would make a 2 hour drive to see it again!

Alas, I convinced him NOT to make the drive and agreed to go see the first showing today in 3-D and then we are headed on base for an OB check up on the twins.

A-mazing!

We had the pleasure of going to see "The Blind Side" this weekend, and were shocked by what a great movie it was. Eric had told me the first time he saw a preview a few months ago in the theater, and I knew that since it had his favorite actress, that we would be seeing it soon after the release.

Sandra Bullock was MADE for this role, and continued to keep the audience's attention throughout the film. She has always been one of my favorite actresses, and I was thoroughly impressed by her last film, The Proposal, but all her films pale in comparison to this performance!

It is based on a true story about a young man that is adopted by a family, 'because it's the Christian thing to do,' and his rise in football and the changes in his life.

This is definitely going on my must-buy list when it comes out on DVD, and I suggest that you ALL take the time to see it in the theater. You will not be disappointed!

The exception to the rule

After seeing Confessions of a Shopaholic in the theater, and loving it, I knew I wanted to read the book. Everyone is always saying that movie adaptations never do the books any justice so I bought the book a while ago and finally found the time to read it on my flights to and from Missouri.

I wasn't able to finish it solely on the flights, but found some time today since it was raining & I couldn't possibly rake leaves in the rain ;o)

So, all in all, it was funny but hard to relate to. It takes place in London, and her massive addiction to shopping is all related to her debt, in British pounds...do you see my dilemma? And, I really enjoyed the relationships between her friends, family, and love interest more as it was portrayed in the movie rather than the book.

It wasn't a bad read, but I actually liked the movie better.

Too good not to share!

Eric and I love going to the movies, and this week it was my turn. Well actually, it has been forever since we saw a movie together and we had 2 free tickets that had to be used, but not for a new release...so it was my turn by default b/c he has seen everything that has been out for more than a week.



So, we (with Eric dressed in a hooded sweatshirt) went to see "Confessions of a Shopaholic." And it was surprisingly hilarious! A day later, and he is continuing to quote it and laugh about the dancing scene, and told the guy he went shooting with this morning how funny it was!

The great thing is that it is rated PG, so don't be scared!!! I laughed at so many different scenes, and so did Eric...even if he was the only guy in the theater ;o)

Not what I expected

I recently went to see "Defiance" with Eric, and I'm not quite sure what I expected, and am still unclear if I liked the movie.

I am so used to the sexy Mr. Bond image that it was very hard for me to wrap my head around him as the leader of forest Jewish community. This story was one I had never heard of before, and always related the tales of the Holocaust with 'The Diary of Anne Frank' and 'Schindler's List.'

It takes place in Belarussian forest with the Nazis advancing on one side, while the Russians are on the other. My heart ached for this family, and community, to survive each time they were attacked and forced to relocate & rebuild.

This is based on a true story, and while I would recommend seeing this lesser known perspective, you won't be missing anything if you wait for it to come out on DVD.

Replacements

Many things have been changing lately. Some for the better, and others...not so much.

I have been spending quite a bit of time lately out of the house, and the undying love my Koa used to have for me has been replaced with love for Eric. As most of you know, we haven't been sleeping in the same bed for quite a while now b/c of his snoring, but Koa always slept with me. Eric would take him to bed, and as soon as the light went out he would jump down and come to sleep with me. Now, he comes to bed with me...and as soon as I stop petting him or change position he commits treason and chooses to sleep with the enemy. Whatever...it is only a matter of time before he comes crawling back. Maybe he forgot that I am the one that feeds him.

I normally have the hands of a construction worker...rough, cracked, with really short nails. These have now been replaced by girl hands, who wudda thunk it? I am done with my Med-Surg rotation (can you hear the Hallelujah chorus?), but I still wash my hands in fear of the germs that are everywhere. So, I went into my stock pile of bath & body works goodies, and put lotion next to all the hand soap on every sink in my house. And, I finally have smooth hands!!! Also, my nails are growing nicely...I can't even remember the last time they were all the same length!

I also sacrificed some much needed to sleep to go to the midnight premiere of "Twilight." I was super excited when I finished the books...but that was replaced by fear that the movie would suck...which was then replaced by complete satisfaction after seeing the movie. Some people were caught up on details, but I enjoyed the overall flow of the film and thought that it followed the plot quite well. Sure, certain events took place in different locations...but really, has any movie ever followed the booked exactly? Well, maybe Pride & Prejudice, but wasn't it like 5 hours long? Someone also pointed out that they had Oregon plates on some of the vehicles...but as someone who lived in that area...it is VERY common to see Oregon & Idaho plates in the Pacific NW! So, if you didn't like the movie you are entitled to your opinion, as am I.

Another replacement to my sleep schedule came Friday night. My friend Vanessa (she is a blogger newbie, so giver her some love...as soon as she posts something) & I planned a bachelorette party for our fellow Nursing Student, Kelsey. Since neither of us had ever been to one before, we were on uncharted waters...but I think it was a huge success. There aren't any pictures right now b/c 1) I couldn't find my camera 2) I will get copies on Monday, and 3) I probably couldn't post many of the pix w/o making most of you blush. We played some very silly games, and to quote one of the girls at the party, they drank "copious amounts of alcohol." We had a great time at Howl at the Moon, and Kelsey danced for the entire 5 hours we were there! I also received much love from the ladies that night...and was kissed on the cheek and hugged by all of them that night. One also made the comment that she was impressed that I could have such a good time without drinking (& my mad skilz on the dance floor)...which is something I am very used to hearing. I really did have a great time and no one was out of line, or out of control. I will give more details when I get the pictures...you'll just have to wait. Stay tuned!

Confessions of a sleep deprived Nursing student...

Lately, school has been kickin' my trash...and I have kind of been in a funk (to say the least). I used to be quite positive and upbeat, and I find myself being very negative lately...and I don't like it. So, I am making some changes.

I am going to stop complaining about my growing waist line and thighs...and put my money where my mouth is. Tonight, Eric and I just joined a 24 hour gym close to home. I can get my reading done while on the treadmill or bike b/c my pet peeve it having to sit still long enough to get all the chapters covered! Also, my shoulder isn't getting any better, and I need to try to incorporate more of the fine motor movements along with my AWESOME yoga on the Wii Fit (can you say Yoga Master!!). Plus, I tend to have quite a bit of insomnia b/c of the shoulder & neck pain, so I might as well be productive while I am awake!


Also, I have been playing off how excited I am about the Twilight premiere this Friday...and I know I said I wasn't going to see it opening night, and I'm not. I got tickets for the Midnight showing Friday morning...ha ha, now you can really be jealous! I am throwing the bachelorette party Friday, and busy all weekend, and I just couldn't wait another week. I know that the movie won't be as good as the book, but I really liked the books. Sorry for all of you who didn't, but aren't different opinions and taste a great thing!!! How boring would it be if we all liked the same thing and there were no differences in life.



Oh, one more thing I spent all night Saturday playing Bang! with my buddies, and never had so much fun Banging so many different people (go ahead and giggle...that was the point!). My friend's husband even commented last week, "I can't wait to Bang all your friends Saturday night!" I think we have a little too much fun with the title of the game, but check out the hyperlink above to find out more about the game. Everyone that plays it, loves it!

Less than impressed

We just got back from seeing "Madagascar 2," and it was okay. I liked it about as much as I like "Cars"...it didn't suck. The only good music was the same as the first one.

It was funny, but not laugh out loud funny. I looked over about an hour into it and Eric had actually fallen asleep. My friend Kim came with us, and that was about the only time that we laughed.

Kids will like it b/c has animals, but if you were hoping to see it, wait for it to come out on DVD.

Best GNO movie ever!!!

Ever since I saw the first preview I couldn't wait to see this movie. I made my other Nursing buddies take a break from studying and enjoy a fun night with the girls!

We had all heard mixed reviews about this flick, but when I saw the premier coverage I was even more intrigued. It seems that all of these talented women did this movie to drive home the fact that there aren't many female roles to choose from...AND they did the entire movie without a male role! I knew this going in, but all my friends commented about how great it was without any male roles.

The theater was filled with huge groups of women coming to see this movie together...and it didn't disappoint. I was laughing out loud throughout this movie and thought all of these women did an amazing job! If your sweetie enjoys chick flicks take him along...but beware that he will probably be the only male in the audience!

It was a great story line without profanity...but for those prudes in the audience...there is one episode with marijuana (about 1 min) and Jada Pinket Smith plays a lesbian. If those factors will consume you with disgust, don't go see it, but just my opinion....great movie and the best chick flick I have seen all year!
