My husband...the Nerd...

The latest conversation with Eric...

"hey baby!"

"hi, I'm headed home...is there anyway I can have an hour on the computer when I get home?"

"um, I guess, why?"

"so I can kill some mutants!"

hysterical laughter!!!!!!!!!

"are you serious? this is for a man-date?"

"well, that is the only time he (new guy he is working with now) can play b/c he has to practice later."

"practice???" (I was thinking maybe the guy had to take a kid to some sports practice)

"yea, they get together and have tournaments."

pause.... and a little more giggling...

"sure, why not"

I guess he could be doing worse things...and there is a pre-determined time limit. But, who is gonna cook me dinner??

******UPDATE*******

I just want to thank everyone for the wishes of health over the past week. I am doing 99% better after getting a massage on Saturday and yesterday afternoon. I talked with Eric and we agree that me getting a massage on a regular basis will keep us both a lot happier, and pain free ;o)

But, I won't be posting very often anymore. I have 6 weeks til my practicum, and about 6 exams to prep for. I have caught up on some of the latest posts from everyone, and will continue to check in from time to time...but I doubt I can get to every post. BUT, I will at least check up on the few newest ones for EVERYONE!!!

Coming up for air

Life has been quite the challenge lately!! It started in the middle of last week when I had to prepare for my Thursday clinical day on Wednesday, all the while packing b/c I was leaving with some friends for our Board of Nursing Trip on Friday in Tallahassee. So, after my 10hr day in the PCU I headed home, took a shower, and by 7pm we were headed off. It was pretty uneventful but I have to say that some of those nurses should be glad I wasn't on the board, b/c there was one case in particular that I would have revoked their license without hesitation. All in all it was a good trip.

We came back Friday night and I was exhausted. I wasn't feeling too good and had been battling a recurrent headache the entire time, so I hit the sack and woke up a few hours later and realized I hadn't taken my shoes off...I was that tired. Then I had a horrible pain in my neck & my back and realized I had been sleeping on the wrong pillow. Since injuring my neck 2 years ago, I have to sleep with a specific pillow or I am in quite a bit of pain. Well, the pain hasn't let up since then and I ended up being on pain killers & muscle relaxers until today. I feel horrible b/c I woke up not knowing what day it was and had a text from one of the girls in my Sunday School class asking who the teacher was supposed to be...by that time it was the afternoon, and I had been sleeping for almost 24 hrs straight. The pain has eased ever so slightly, but I am still in constant pain.

I also had my second exam yesterday, and since I barely passed my first one, I spent every moment I wasn't asleep, studying...and I did a little better this time. I just have to keep telling myself that C's get degrees ;o)

So, I haven't had much time to catch up on my blog reading...but I shouldn't be as busy this week. This time I have over 250 to catch up on, so please be patient with me b/c I really do love reading what you incredibly witty people have to say!!

I may have missed my calling

I am sitting at the computer researching lab results on my client when I hear a rhythmic tapping....

...so I quietly start singing...

dum dum dum dum dum dum dum...Now stop, collaborate and listen...

Yep, gotta love Vanilla Ice!!! I'm in clinical caring for clients, and there is constantly music going through my head!!! The student next to me joined in a little on the next few phrases. Then she said, "you know what that makes me think of...what's that song about butts?"

Oh yeah...we broke it out. "oh my gosh Becky, look at her butt, it's like so big...I like big butts and I cannot lie..."

So, this went on a for a few more minutes (quietly), and then we went back to our paperwork.

Don't get me wrong, I can focus when I need to. But, even when I am carrying on a conversation...there is almost always music in the background...but only I can hear it ;o)

Being kind or impatient?

I had promised my mom I would send her my old Nurse's Drug guides b/c she has been out of school for over 10 years. So, I pack them up and head to the Post Office. I'm sure the Post Office in our town isn't the only one that you plan on spending at least 20 minutes waiting in line, so I was surprised when there was only 10 people in line.

I was finally next in line when the lady at the register closest to me says, "I'll have to go out to the car to get the rest of it." I'm not sure what she was mailing but she only brought a dollar in with her, and needed an additional 17 cents. So, off she ran. Then without hesitating I open my wallet and pull out a quarter and give it to the person behind the counter. He says next, I walk up hand him my package, give him cash, get my change and I'm on my way.

I heard him tell the lady that I had paid the change and she said thank you as I was walking away, and I smiled...

Am I a completely horrible person to have paid the remainder b/c I was in a hurry?? Now, I do live in a poor area, so there was some compassion in this act...but it was mainly b/c I had to leave be at V's house to get her son off the bus.

I'd like to think I am a nice person. I always offer to load groceries for old ladies, I stop people if I see they dropped something, and I tell someone if they have something in their teeth.

So, I guess I'm feeling pretty guilty for not doing this act purely out of the kindness of my heart. It's like it doesn't count, and is the same as if I did nothing.

Have you ever felt that way when you help someone, but also benefit from it??

Twistie ties, you just made the list

I am a loyal/blind follower of the great Stephen Colbert, so I feel I must composite my own list of Things/People that are On Notice & Dead to Me

On Notice:

The Super Bowl. Is it just me or has it been too long to remember there being two teams involved that were actually worth watching. And, the football game seems to get in the way of the funny commercials. Professional athletes are so over paid. Also, what is up with the boring half time performances?

School. I feel like it will never end...and even when I graduate, it will only be a few months off before I'm back in the classroom.

Cold weather. I realize you only stay around for a few weeks at a time, and some variety is nice, but you are so very very close to being dead to me!

The Screen Actors Guild. Get over yourself!! It's not like you have produced that many good movies lately.

Battlestar Galactica. What the frack!! I only started watching you last season...and while at first it was to make fun of everything but, like a trainwreck I couldn't help but keep watching. Now it is your last season. What the frack?!?!

Dead to Me:

Twistie ties. I'm sick of you running away everytime I take you off the loaf of bread. Stop hiding and fight like a man!!!

US Postal Service. You have lost too many packages in the last 3 years that if you were a private company, you would have already been out of business!

Tricare. Whenever anyone from the military hospital calls, my ringtone says "Stupid, someone below normal intelligence."

Global Warming. Lets face it, nobody likes you but you still insist on sticking around!

Ugly wide belts. The 60's are calling and said they don't even want them!

These lists are subject to change without notice...until you are on notice!
