Is being a nerd a bad thing?

I am used to being teased, b/c I give it out way too much to not expect it!!! But, I am also known for being....we'll say, prepared. So often I am asked to use my stapler, if I have a tissue, if I brought my lab coat, and other things. I kind of think I have a problem of being a packrat, but it pays off far too often to give up now!

Well, this summer I decided to purchase a hip clip for my stethascope. I was sick of keeping it around my neck in fear of some beligerant patient grabbing it or while leaning over the bedside, accidentilly knocking someone in the head with it. I love my little clip...but I guess it's nerdy.

I also have what one of my friends referred to as my "nerdy nurse pack pocket protector." It is a pocket organizer. I know, symantics. But, I love not having to search through my pockets looking for a pen, scissors, or ETOH pads.

It seems that I am always organized when it comes to school or work, but I can't keep my office or house organized to save my life!

That is a good balance! Organize at work, slop at home! Glad to see you back! Can't wait to see graduation pics!

I think that the clip is cute! And practical.

I would much rather have a nerdy organized nurse than one who forgets everything and doesn't know where anything is!

The patients will be greatful that they are not getting knocked in the head by your stethascope. :)

It is good to be so organized especially as a nurse! Since my Mom is a nurse I have heard of the patients grabbing the stethoscope and yanking them down, that hip thing is genius Mary!!

I think your clip and protector are genius....not nerdy. I would love a protector that looks as cool as the one you have....I either put my pencils/pens in my hair, behind my ears, or attach it to the neck of my blouse....talk about teacher nerdom...that is it at it's finest.

Nerdy or not, I think you're a cut above. :)

That's funny... I seem to remember being called a nerd by you on many occasions through the years. (Just because it is true doesn't mean it is nice)

I have tried lots of solutions to the disorganized nurse dilemma. I tried a pocket organizer, but found that it was inadequate (hard to slip items in, harder to get them out) and couldn't hold the all-important saline flushes. I tried a fanny pack (my wife lovingly calls it my manny pack), and that did a great job of keeping everything at hand, but was a bit cumbersome and hideously ugly, so I still keep everything in it when I put my stuff away at my locker when all is said and done, but in the end, I just trust my cargo pants (Scrub Wear: 8.99 at Uniform City) and have my carpuject in one pen pocket, my penlight in another pen pocket, my Coors Light Prep Pads in the small pocket and my scrap paper and saline flushes in the big pocket with my ever-handy dry erase marker clipped to the corner. In my shirt pocket, I keep my reference materials in the form of my iphone and I even have a separate pen-pocket for my papermate click-pen that I special order by the box. My scissors are hooked to a retractible lanyard and clipped to the belt-line of my pants.

And with that I am nerdily ready for battle.

Oh and the stethoscope has to be around the neck for me. The hip one makes it bump uncomfortably against my legs with every step and drives me batty. (though some would argue that I'm already there.)

Genius idea! Where did you find and purchase these from?
